Great netbook April 27, 2010

This was a great purchase. It was cheap, it works great, and it's super portable. I love how long the battery life is, I love the keyboard size and mousepad size. Windows starter is completely usable. The only thing you can't do with it is change the background, which really is not that important. Everything else is customizable. I've even got my taskbar hidden so i can maximize my usable screen space. Now, this is all the things I love about it, now to talk about some of the downsides. For one, it is slower than my old computer, but what can you expect when going from a 2.2GHz dual core to a 1.6GHz single core. Nevertheless, its not unbearably slow. It might be for someone who has absolutely no patience, but for me, I can handle it. It can even play a few older, or simpler games. For example, it can run Starcraft and World of Warcraft just fine. Another bad thing is that whether or not the wifi, mouse, brightness, almost anything, is controlled by software on the computer, rather than a physical switch. This would be fine if the software always worked, but I've had a bunch of problems with mine. When I first got it the software didn't even work and I had to reinstall it. Now maybe I just got a lemon, and on other computer it works without there ever being problems, but for me, i've had some problems. The biggest reason that this is annoying is because the trackpad is so big that it gets in the way of typing a lot of the time. So if I want to type something long it's really bothersome when it doesn't work (like right now). The only solution I've found for this is to never put it to sleep or hibernation. The software always works after its been restarted. Even so, restarting takes about a minute longer than waking up from sleep, so I don't always want to shut it down. Also, the mouse sometimes loses some of its features. Like scrolling and center click, which I use a lot. It still retails its base functionality, but losing the extras seems unnecessary and annoying.
For my final say, don't make this your only computer. I love its portability and battery life, but its slowness is a bit of a drawback. Buy it. It's awesome. But make sure you have something else to work on at home.

Very pleased with my purchase! Some computer engineers have told me Toshiba is the best in Laptops/Netbooks. Love the keyboard, the design, the color, the speed, the battery life, etc... I wished it would be lighter in weight and the screen would have the size of the lid (the framework could be thinner)... Anyhow, I love it!!!

Got this one because of reviews and good price on Amazon. Bought mostly for travel and ordered the pink by mistake but wife likes it so maybe pink was a wise move! Upgraded to memory to 2 gig and have had no problems. The speaker on bottom is not great but use it mostly with earphones or portable speakers so sound is fine for them. Windows 7 Starter is fine for my needs. Can't go wrong at amazon's price.
